XENIA BUNINA born in 1992
bio
Born in Kazakhstan and shaped by a life of constant movement, my journey as an artist has been as diverse as the places I've lived. After attending primary school in France and graduating in Saint Petersburg, I now reside in Lisbon, Portugal, where I study at a contemporary art school called ARCO. With over 10 years of experience, my work spans a wide range of mediums—oil painting, photography, drawing, scanning, collages, and video art—reflecting my belief that there are no limits in exploring the world.
about art
My art is driven by emotions and the search for connections and traces between everything, both in the world around me and within myself. As an immigrant since birth, the themes of connection and searching for roots are central to my work, as I strive to piece together my identity from the fragments of this world.
exhibits
This year, my work will be exhibited in Lisbon and Tokyo, following a recent residency with my school in Lisbon. My current projects continue to explore these themes, inviting viewers to dive into the layered and often abstract narratives that define my artistic journey.
I will present my drawing project Traces in a collective exhibit. A layered exploration of history created during a residency at the Museum of Nature and Science, where transparent windows and overlapping creatures invite viewers to delve into the past.
I am waiting for the dates, I will present my film photography project After Acceptance in a collective exhibit. This abstract photography series, created with damaged film, evokes the fragmented yet deeply emotional connections between an immigrant and their distant grandparents.
